Woowie Game-Jam : DropBack devlog !
Hello, I am Aymco and this is my first devlog so I don't know how to do that but let's give it a try !
So recently I made a game for the Woowie GameJam. I had not planned to do it but 5 min before start I saw the theme reveal live and i quickly scribed in.
When the themes reveals "Failure is Progress", I was lost and i didn't had any good idea.
So I decided to start making the game and the idea will come with the time. I made a 2D Platformer because i had never done this before and it can go with any concept.
I made my own TileSet ! for the first time i could make some sort of art and i was proud of it, even if it doesn't look so good. I also made the character with the animated Slime package because drawing is good but it takes so much time !
After that it was time to think again of my concept so I ask other people what they thought about the themes and I finally come up with a good idea. In fact I tought 2 ideas that I put together and idk if it is the best choice.
So I will make a game where :
-The goal is to go to the top with the few death as possible
-when you fail and fall you will be able to bounce and come back higher and also
-when you die you can get a super power(Super Bounce, Shield and Speed Boost).
So I get back to work but I realized that i had not so much time because Monday i had work to do so i needed to release the game sunday but sunday i was gone all the day like saturday. I worked on my game in total for 20 hours on the 72h so it was a little short. I was always in somethings like a rush state to finish my game quickly at the right time but sunday i hadn't finished all of my game, there was still some bugs so i uploaded my game monday by finishing it quickly between pauses. It was really stressfull but it's so cool when it's done.
I really enjoyed this game jam because , when you need to do a game on a short periode, you are way more productive. Game jam make you also feels like superman or idk because you do a game in 3 days and in normal time it just take somethings like one year to get it done and polished because you always change things.
I also received a lot of comments on my game, way more than expected. I really liked to see all the community around game developement, there is so many good people. I it is awesome to learn how to improve your game with the comments so thanks again to all of these other developper !

I will of course make another Game Jam in the future if the opportunity shows up to me because it was an awesome experience ! I will maybe do it with friends the next time, we will see.
